About AdiNefas

Adi Nefas is a semi-urban community located approximately 6 km northwest of Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, with around 13,000 residents. Our roots trace back to the ancient Asgede lineage, a heritage shared across the highlands and lowlands of Eritrea. According to oral tradition, the ancestor of Adi Nefas and the ancestor of Asgede were brothers. While Asgede migrated from the highlands of Kabasa down to the lowlands, his brother chose to remain at Adi Nefas. Their descendants — known as the House of Asgade — adkeme, bHaylay, geneshl, tesfaw, smur, m'Atey and fechen ( ኣድከመ፣ ብሃይላይ፣ ገነሽል፣ ተስፋው፣ ስሙር፣ ምዓተይ፣ ፍጨን) have lived here to this day, preserving the traditions, faith, and community bonds that define who we are. Adi Nefas is more than a place on a map. It is a community of families bound by shared heritage and a deep love for our homeland. This website was created to connect our community — to share news, celebrate milestones, preserve our stories, and support the development of our village. Together, we keep the spirit of Adi Nefas alive for the next generation.
